Red County Roleplay | Year in Review: 2017
IntroductionThe Year in Review is a recap of notable events in the community that occurred in the past year. This includes, but is not circumscribed to, script development, staff team changes, structural changes, and other tweaks that have an impact to the community. The Year in Review is published at the first month of every year.

For the best browsing experience, it is recommended to view this thread on a computer with screen resolution set to at least 1360x768. This thread will look broken if the resolution is below the given value. (Sorry, 800x600 elitists)

Summary of Highlights2017 has been a wild ride for Red County Roleplay. Despite multiple rounds of issues and drama that had taken place, we were able to facilely recover from them. The staff team was able to accomplish multiple achievements that is also pro-community, including the prelude of two new positions to the staff team - Faction Consultation Team and Modding Team. The Faction Consultation Team avails the Faction Administration Team in overseeing factions in the community. The Modding Team, meanwhile, designs all customized skin modifications for the server, pushing the upcoming client update to its full potential.

Script development came with the addition of the graffiti system for illegal factions, and two new weapons entered the economy (Silenced Pistol and Sawnoff Shotguns). Player nametags became text labels, and nametag hackers feel downhearted. Speed cameras are gonezo, as well as the bus bot that we all miss... or do we?

Community interaction boosted further with the launch of the RCRP Discord server, and the introduction of the Meet the Community board. A few products have gone viral around the community. One of them was the IC social networking site, Snapshot Social, which was a hit to players despite its short stint. An abundance of "deep web" pages were made, but did not last long after being taken down.

It was generally a diligent year for factions. On top of the additament of the Faction Consultation Team and the implementation of faction handlers, factions had a sweet breeze of payday boost and the implementation of faction takedown system, which should initiate illegal factions to think smarter with their actions; therefore, the effort on detective investigation casefiles can determinately go somewhere rather than basic "investigation roleplay".

It was dominantly a year for leadership changes for each government faction: Deacon Bohannon [Anderson] taking lead of the San Andreas County Sheriff's Office since November 16th, 2017; Richard Bleakley [Gary] taking lead of the Red County Fire Department since July 29th, 2017; Alexander King [Zoltan] taking lead of the San Andreas State Court since May 5th, 2017.

The San Andreas State Police transformed into a "sheriff"-type faction and renamed it to "San Andreas County Sheriff's Office"; the Red County Fire Department implemented a medical licensing system; the San Andreas State Court balled hard with the introduction of the parole program, which infelicitously did not last long, but compensated it with the introduction of District Attorney Investigators. The death row system also came into effect. Finally, the San Andreas Penal Code was given a facelift by Daniels.

While we are still at the government part, one of the most controversial changes in the subject is the removal of Aperture, but I will leave it there as it is. At the end of the day, all changes and transitions related to factions have gone smoothly since the split of head of factions role.

The forum received new BBCodes, extending the possibilities of configuring post aesthetics (this thread is actually making use of the new codes). Additionally, new forum rank images were created, making the two year old rank images (that used the Pricedown font) obsolete. The Auctions board, now called Marketplace, also had a transformation with revamped rules.

On the back-end side of operations, running a server comes with quandaries, and it was this year when we moved our dedicated server to a different provider, noted to be more superior than the antecedent provider.

Finally, and the most special one, is the addition of our server owner, TommyB, to the San Andreas Multiplayer Beta Testing Team. Who would have thought that someone who had no clue about the Pawn language will now become part of the modification's beta team? :TombGame:

While not necessarily connected to Red County Roleplay, TommyB launched a new deathmatch gamemode, namely Red County Deathmatch, as a form of another server beside the Movieserver.

Closing Words and the Future of Community ReviewsWhen I started this project in 2013, gathering community highlights and statistics is something I enjoyed doing the most. The interest that sparked the community inspired me to continue this project consistently, even making it a monthly thing in 2014, despite the period of absence of my computer and had to compile everything from my smartphone at the time. Consequently, like any other human, the time will eventually come when this activity starts to bore you. I admit that my motivation is not as it was in the previous years. As the community grows each year, the needed data have also grown bigger. It is not always an easy task, especially when it is a one man team. These reviews have become a "traditional" thing along with the annual awards and "memories" thread.

So, I figured - why not bring along people who also enjoy the same activity? This idea led to the formation of the "Data Research Team", which is composed of myself, Gary, and Scarletti at the moment. The purpose of the team is to gather and compile data for future community reviews such as this one. We are simply "hobbyists", and we do it for fun. In addition to compiling data, we take responsibility of documenting staff additions to be posted in the General OOC board. The Data Research Team is about to kick in this 2018, so stay tuned!

In conclusion, I would like thank you for reading this year's review! I appreciate the anticipation from the community, and rest assured that we will continue this project for as long as Red County Roleplay is existing.

See yuh next year!

~ Giga
